Life Changes Away From Food Retail Hell & the Bars by Bradford Middleton

LIFE CHANGES AWAY FROM FOOD RETAIL HELL & THE BARS

As I wade through reams of poems
From the covid-19 years it seems like
They were written from another life
As everything now seems so different
To how it was then.

Work was hell & I nearly killed
Myself with the alcohol needed just
To forget every single damn day
When I stood on the checkout of
Doom in food retail hell.

Home was here but somehow, back
Then, it felt different. Home, back
Then, was a stool on a bar on the
Street of ill-repute & here, well merely
A place to crash & recover.

Where as work now seems like my
Kind of thing as the boss asks me
‘can you sort the sale books please?’
And I retort ‘sure as soon as I get
Back from my 1 hour lunch!’ &
Home, well home, finally feels that
Way as I’ve turned my back on the
Bars & now my room shows signs
Of some kind of furnishing & at
Long last feels like it always should have!
