Having the Last Word
I left the apartment building this morning to do laundry
It was a typical day on Nob Hill in San Francisco with lots of wind and fog
While walking back to my apartment after doing the laundry I saw Harry Denton,
owner and playboy of the famous Starlight Room that towers above Union Square
Harry was sitting at his usual table outside Jasmin’s Café, there was no sleepy-eyed
beautiful boy with him leftover from the night before, nor the neighborhood’s old lady
gossip queen chatting his ear off
He was alone reading the morning paper
His sandals were off and his huge feet laid on top of them, as I looked down
at the big toe on his right foot, I saw two words written above it in black tattoo ink:
