Welcome to my World on a Wednesday
The TV repeats the same news as this morning –
war, floods, famine –
while kids improvise dance to beats
on the sidewalk below,
a show I’m in the cheap seats for
though I didn’t buy tickets.
My attention is up for grabs –
the newsreader, dinner in the microwave,
a spider on a ceiling crawl,
music from the next door apartment,
the way my shoelaces won’t stay tied –
as every previous thought of mine
is politely excusing itself, one at a time,
like guests leaving a party too early.
And then, suddenly, you – not naked
scandalously but naked in the way
a glance can rewrite art history,
replace every nude I’ve seen
in galleries with you – something I see
that no one else does – lucky me.
Is it Wednesday already?
Yes it is. Ridiculous Wednesday.
The day after nonsensical Tuesday.
