I Saw Madness by James Babbs

I Saw Madness

and I woke up
after dreaming about madness
and I saw madness
right there
smeared across the TV
so I climbed out of bed
and stumbled down the hallway
and I heard madness
being shouted by persons
running around in the streets
and I saw madness
in some of the faces
of people that I thought I knew
and I wanted to understand them
but I just couldn’t grasp it
and I wondered if
maybe
I was the one
who had gone mad
and I heard madness
falling from the trees
and I saw madness
in the sky above me
disguising itself as clouds
and I heard madness
carried on the wind
the harsh sounding wind
so I returned to my bed
and I pulled the blankets
up over my head
and I waited
I waited for the rain to come
and wash it all away
I waited in the dark
for the wind to change direction
and go back from where it came

James Babbs has been writing for most of his life but he still manages to learn new things. He
has written hundreds of poems and a few short stories and has even had a few of them published.
More recently James has been indulging in writing haiku with a certain amount of success. He
still thinks about writing a novel someday but that just seems like an awful lot of words.
