October Sky by James Babbs

October Sky

It was late in the afternoon and the October sky looked heavy and gray.  It looked like it was going to rain but it hadn’t happened yet.  I saw a woman I didn’t know walking on the road past my house.  She was attractive with dirty blonde hair and her tight-fitting t-shirt accentuated the lovely shape of her tits.  I stood at the window staring at the woman and I imagined myself walking out the front door and talking to her.  I imagined her laughing at something I said before she followed me into the house.  I saw her standing there in the living room looking at all the books lining my bookshelves.  I watched her just standing there, pulling at the front of her t-shirt and stretching the fabric even tighter across her nipples.  I imagined coming up behind her and wrapping my arms around her, turning her toward me and kissing her full on the mouth.

But the vision sputtered and broke apart before dissolving into the air.  I took another look out the window but the woman was gone.  I went into the kitchen and pulled a beer from the fridge.  I twisted off the cap and took a long drink.  The light was starting to fade in the October sky.  Soon it would be dark again.

THE END

James Babbs has been writing for most of his life but he still manages to learn new things. He
has written hundreds of poems and a few short stories and has even had a few of them published.
More recently James has been indulging in writing haiku with a certain amount of success. He
still thinks about writing a novel someday but that just seems like an awful lot of words.
