Promise
We had the rings picked out.
She promised me,
you will never
be that lonely again.
Ever.
Emphasizing that final word.
EVER.
I think of her promise
as I sit here
listening to her voicemails
over and over.
The only thing left
to keep me company now.
Plate Tectonics
I watched a documentary on YouTube
and learned
that approximately 100-300 million years ago
there was one single, super continent
called Pangea
with one vast ocean that covered
two-thirds of the entire planet.
sidenote: I once dated a girl named Gia,
it wasn’t super.
The world shifted
and the continent split,
pieces floated away
in opposite directions.
Some eventually came back together
after millions of years in between
to form new continents
and land masses that held together.
Others turned into mountains
that became single islands
in the new seas.
You and I
are like that
and I am still
a single island,
floating here,
waiting patiently
for another
million years or so.
A Terrible Buddhist
I have
never been
good
at the art
of letting go.
