New Book by Catfish McDaris and Craig Scott

Tales From A French Envelope by Catfish McDaris & Craig Scott 172 pages hardcover at Lulu.com ISBN 978-1-257-96373-7

Poems and stories for the hurt and the lonely, the horny and the adventurous.
Sep. 30, 2011 By Octavio Chavez
After reading this killer book of wild hilarious thought provoking stories and poems, I will be ordering many copies for my family and friends. Both authors left me grinning, laughing, and wondering. I saw glimpses of Bukowski, Adrian C. Louis, Papa H., W. Somerset Maugham, Steinbeck, Henry Miller, and Todd Moore. Two quotations come to mind: “All my life, has yearned for a thing I cannot name.” Andre Breton “Impropriety is the soul of wit.” Maugham This book literally gets down to f..king business like both barrels of a sawed off shotgun to the brain. Jump in with both feet, you won’t be sorry.

Reviews of R L Raymond’s “Sonofabitch Poems”

Is he a poet? To tell you the truth, I don’t know. That term has been so overused these days as to have become practically meaningless. Does he write good poetry? You bet he does! His poems are real and natural. Unforced. There’s no pose or pretense here. Raymond doesn’t feel the need to impress the reader with his knowledge. There’s no overwhelming need to sink these poems under a deluge of endless and laughable references to Greek and Latin. No constant quoting of obscure deities and historical personages. Just life. These poems scream with life. Really. This is not your blue-hair’d grandmother’s genteel poetry. This is shock and awe poetry…take no prisoners…bomb-blast poetry. Poetry perched on bar stools, lounging in beer joints, waiting to catch you unaware and take you to your death. Let it be said that these poems are like Paul Kersey, Charles Bronson’s character in the 1974 movie DEATH WISH. Pushed to the brink, with nothing seemingly left to lose, these poems lay it all down on the line with originality, perception and depth. Is Raymond trying to impress his reader? Not in the least. And that, my friends, is what impresses most.
- John Yamrus, author of more than 1,300 published poems and 20 books, his newest being “can’t stop now”.

A sharp and economical style in no way diminishes the emotion in this fine poetry.
- Milner Place, poet

Sonofabitch Poems is powerful, tender, compelling, tough-minded. A roiling book.
- Penn Kemp, London, Ontario’s Poet Laureate

road/house – Saint Vitus Press Releases New Book by Todd Moore

road / house – Saint Vitus Press is proud to announce a 6/17/11 release of its first book:
Gangsters, Harlots and Thieves:  Down and out at the Hotel Clifton

Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves… was compiled and edited by Theron Moore featuring the poetry and essays of my father Todd Moore.

This book is a bio / memoir of my father’s experience growing up in post depression America at the down and out Hotel Clifton in Freeport, Illinois and his experiences interacting with the various gangsters, harlots and thieves that were a normal, daily part of his life back then.

His story is told by him to you through his essays and poetry. I also added commentary throughout the book by myself, my brother and my aunt Nancy to offer a little more insight into my father, living at the Hotel Clifton, etc.

We also get a glimpse into what his relationship was like with his father, how the outlaw portion of his personality was developed while living at the Hotel Clifton, and what piqued his interest as a kid to want to become a writer. My father talked about these things sporadically, over the years, in various interviews, etc., but it’s never been compiled and documented in print to the degree as it is here, in this book.

Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves… is also my father’s first publication to be published under the banner of road/house – Saint Vitus Press. More titles will be announced later and will include publishing ALL of my father’s Dillinger poems and essays at a future date.

All future publications will be made available through Amazon.com using their print on demand services. My reason being I want my father’s work to be accessed globally, I want each publication to be professionally manufactured and distributed, and I want every book to have an ISBN number so bookstores and libraries can order copies as well.

With that said, I wish I could hand out free copies of this book to all of you but I just don’t have the money to do that, I hope you understand.

Please go to Amazon.com and order Gangsters, Harlots and Thieves: Down and out at the Hotel Clifton. It’s a good book and I think you’ll all enjoy it quite a bit. Thanks…

– Theron Moore

Frankie Metro joins Red Fez Publications as New Editor

The evolution of Red Fez Publications continues with the addition of Frankie Metro to the editorial staff.

FEZZERY. Thursday, June 2, 2011–Red Fez Publications has appointed Frankie Metro as associate fiction/non-fiction editor. Frankie joins the staff of Head Fiction Editor Patrick Simonelli, and will begin with the 35th issue of Red Fez, due out on June 13, 2011.

Frankie Metro is 28 years old and currently resides somewhere in Arizona. He is an Arthur Rimbaud and Henry Miller fanatic and enjoys the finer things in life such as surrealistic prose and graffiti art. He has been writing prose/fiction/non-fiction/poetry/screenplays/graphic novels for 15 years now. He attended Eastern Kentucky University where he majored in English Pre-Teaching with a minor in Sociology. You can find his work in such publications as:  Modus Operandi, Epic Rites Press (Tree Killer Ink Magazine), Unlikely Stories, Kerouac’s Dog Magazine, Shoots and Vines, Calliope Nerve, The Meth Lab, Horror Sleaze & Trash, Guerrilla Pamphlets, Pigeonbike Poetry, Curbside Splendor, Paraphernalia Quarterly.

When asked about his new position at Red Fez Frankie responded, “Red Fez promised me a lucrative contract when signing on with their editing staff. I was to be paid 6.5 million comic books a year for being their starting forward. Or the 2 guard spot if I wasn’t tall enough. I have yet to see a single issue of the new Hulk series (he’s fucking red now!), but company morale is still high. On a side note, I have been witness to strange occurrences around the office…such as Michael Grover making sweet love to the copy machine next to the break room and Tim Murray “boosting” Root Beer in the men’s bathroom.”

Red Fez Publication’s Editor in Chief Michele McDannold had this to say, “I’ll be pretending that Frankie is a gurl. We need some chic power around here. Claudia and I agree, we’ll share the women’s restroom with anyone but Timmy– he’s constantly stopping up the toilet with dirty diapers.”

Frankie begins his editing duties at Red Fez effective immediately.

Red Fez Publications Releases 34th Issue Online

FEZLANDIA. Friday, May 13, 2011 — Red Fez Publications has just released Issue #34. Monthly issues are published on the 13th of each month and this month is no exception. Oh no, we’re not a-scared of Friday the 13th!

Back for Part II of “Drink with the Coyotes” is Paul Corman-Roberts’ column Dispatches from Atlantis. Migs makes it to Cali but you’ll have to read to find out what drives him to the edge… “Mission St – This is the wondrous alien nightmare the evening news sang of in my youth. A landscape belonging to pedigree uniforms by day, and the trolls I was warned about as a child by night.”

Ani Smith, Michael Filippone and Robert Kloss offer up thoughtful reviews on three small press books. A midget is on the loose in Margaret Ozemet’s non-fiction piece and you’ll find inspiration galore in Frankie Metro’s “excerpt from the professional donor”. There’s also a treat in the Articles and Reviews section– our very own Headitor Patrick Simonelli brings you a special report on Rammstein. Whether you do or don’t know what a Rammstein is, you’re sure to enjoy this article.

Speaking of Headitors – Michael Grover delivers a fine intro for this issue and along with our other hard-working fezitors, a great line-up of poetry. Julie Valin, Matt Amott, Melanie Browne, Nathan Savin Scott, ML Heath, Sheri L. Wright, Ben Bartman, Clara Hope Mitchell, William John Watkins, David Cicerone, Changming Yuan and Cassandra Dallett make their first appearance in the Fez along with returning contributors Melissa Hansen, John Grochalski, Jack Varnell, Dan Provost, Craig Fishbane, Marc Pietrzykowski, Alan Catlin, Luis Rivas, M.P. Powers, Jessica McHugh and Justin Hyde.

Cecelia Chapman along with collaborators Jeff Crouch and Steve Johnson bring you another great video from the Danger Archive. Our favorite Red Fez Radio guest F.N. Wright is back with some amazing artwork along with photography from Eleanor Leonne Bennett.

Tom Andrews returns to the stories section with a hilarious flash fiction piece called “At The Hors d’oeuvre Convention” and Bill McLaughlin is back with the third installment in the six-part series, “Breakfast and a Cigarette, A Novella in Four Directions”. The other talented authors included in this section are Timothy Gager, Bill Ectric, Cindy M. Kelly, Patricia Carragon, Donald O’Donovan, Forrest Aguirre, George Sparling, Fawzy Zablah, Jeff Chon and Jason Lancaster Cooney.

Submissions are currently open until May 31st for the next issue due online June 13, 2011. Guidelines can be found at www.redfez.net.
