Meth Pipe

by Josh Olsen

While walking my dog, Kelso – a merle, Australian Shepherd/Collie mix – I came upon what I believed to be a meth pipe.

It was left in plain view, on the sidewalk, in front of one of the many foreclosures in our neighborhood, and when I breathlessly relayed this information to KT, she denied that it had, in fact, been used for meth.

I described it to her, and still she didn’t believe me.

She claimed that I was exaggerating the truth, that in my imagination I was making it a meth pipe because I wanted it to be a meth pipe, because I imagined a meth pipe was more dangerous, and hence more exciting of a story to tell, and not what it actually was, a pipe that had been used for smoking pot.

“Why would I lie?” I exclaimed, and she replied, simply enough, “Because that’s what you do.”
